Lodges: Sleep in a dormitory style building,
which includes a common living area, kitchen,
fire ring and bathroom. Leaders stay in the lodge,
but are not permitted to sleep in the same room
as the girls. Girl Scout Brownies have priority for
lodge space, but they are placed in tents once the
lodges are filled. Older girl troops may be placed
in lodges only after all Girl Scout Brownie troops
are placed.

Platform Tent Units: Sleep in a unit with
wooden platforms covered by canvas tents
(tents sleep four people), which includes cots
and mattresses, a kitchen shelter, fire ring and
latrine. Leaders stay in the unit, but they are not
permitted to share the same tent with girls.

Camp t-shirts and/or patches must be preordered
($10 per shirt and $1 per patch). An order form is included in your confirmation packet. The shirt design is new.

All TAC participants (both girls and adults) must
provide a current health history (within six months of dates of attendance).

No, leaders are not required to be Basic Camp Certified, but at least one adult from each troop that has never attended TAC MUST attend TAC Leader Orientation, which is on April 17, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at Camp Stonybrook. If your troop registers for the low ropes course, at least one leader from your troop MUST attend Low Ropes Facilitator Training from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. (immediately following TAC Leader Orientation). TAC Leader Orientation does not qualify you as Basic Camp Certified.

Troop leaders accompanying the troop are responsible for maintaining Safety-Wise ratios and adequately supervising the girls. The camp staff provides camp expertise and leadership for the program activities. Program Assistants are on hand to assist the staff and troop leaders with activities. Program Assistants are minors (younger than 18 years old) and are not permitted to supervise campers.

Troop leaders must provide supervision of girls in the
following ratios:

  • 2 adults for every 12 girls entering 2nd through 3rd grade
  • 2 adults for every 16 girls entering 4th through 5th grade
  • 2 adults for every 20 girls entering 6th grade and above

There MUST be a minimum of two adults in attendance
with every troop at TAC. These required adults attend
without paying a fee. Any adult attending who is not
required to fulfill Safety-Wise ratios must pay the full cost. The priority is to accommodate as many girls as possible. Please limit adults to the required ratios. Arrangements can be made for girls with special needs.

  • To meet Safety-Wise ratios, an “adult” must be an individual over 18 years of age.
  • You may not bring “taga-longs” (adult leader’s
younger children). Attendees must be registered Girl Scout Brownies, Juniors or Cadettes attending camp with their troop or group.

TAC gives girls the opportunity to plan their camp adventure with their leaders. It is important that the girls and adults work in partnership during the planning process:

  • Submit a completed registration form -including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices of dates. Registration opens on February 24, 2010.
  • Review the TAC Leader Manual (included in the
confirmation packet), this will help you plan your TAC experience in partnership with your girls.
  • Discuss activity, packout, shirt/patch and trip options with the troop members. Work together to make decisions, and then complete the request forms (included in the confirmation packet).
  • Return the completed activity, packout and shirt/patch order forms no later than May 14, 2010. Requests received after this date are not guaranteed.
  • Plan activities with a sister Girl Scout troop attending TAC during your session. You will receive information about earning the “Seek Your Sister” patch in your confirmation
    packet.
  • Work with troop members to obtain permission slips, pack equipment, purchase troop supplies, and schedule transportation.

Have you been to TAC several times? Do you have a lot of camping experience? If so, think about enhancing your TAC experience with one of these trip options:

  • Caesar’s Creek State Park (www.ohiodnr.com/parks):
Explore the park, including hiking, fishing, picnicking, beach swimming, naturalists and pioneer village (free).
  • Wright Patterson Air Force Museum (www.wpafb.af.mil/museum): Spend a day enjoying the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world (free).
  • Rivers Edge Canoeing (www.riversedgeoutfi tters.com): Take a canoeing trip on the Scenic Little Miami River ($10 per participant – fee includes transportation to and from camp).
  • High Ropes Challenge Course (Camp Whip-Poor-Will): Experience the excitement of pushing your limits and overcoming challenges high above the ground ($15 per participant).

Adventure Trip Helpful Hints

  • The trips offer progressive activities and challenges to experienced, older girl troops. The trips are not appropriate for younger girls or first-year campers at TAC.
  • You must schedule your own Adventure Trip with the activity provider (except Rivers Edge Canoeing and High Ropes Challenge Course).
  • You will receive additional
    information in your confirmation packet.
  • Most trips require additional registration fees – your troop is responsible for these fees.
  • If the trip requires off -site travel, your troop is responsible for providing your own transportation (except for Rivers Edge).
