Nestled along the banks of the scenic Maumee River just outside of Defiance, Ohio Camp Edward Drummond Libbey has almost 350 acres of fields, forests and ravines. An eight week resident camp program during the summer months offers a variety of programs for girls that include swimming,
canoeing, horseback riding, archery, crafts and more.

HOUSING

Camp Libbey provides two types of housing to accommodate campers. Each description lists the type of housing available.

Platform tents have wood floors, cots with mattresses and accommodate four campers per tent. The unit has a bath house with hot showers and flush toilets. Staff are located in nearby tents within the unit. Each unit accommodates 32-40 campers and staff.

Buildings have wooden beds with mattresses (some beds may be bunked), hot showers, flush toilets and can accommodate 8 to 32 campers and staff.

Buildings and large shelters are available for rainy days and some indoor activities. As part of a special program, girls may sleep in ground tents or at the corral/barn for one or more nights. Camp Libbey also has a main dining hall, pool, archery range, ropes course, climbing wall, administrative building, health center, and Trading Post.

Horse Programs
Camp Libbey has a horse barn, built in 2003, and corral, on site which offers some unique programming opportunities. Sixteen horses, a variety of farm animals and miles of riding trails allow us to build a program to fit the needs of campers. We offer a wide variety of educational clinics as well as riding for beginner, intermediate, or more advanced riders.

All horse programs are designed and overseen by a CHA certified riding director as well as several trained riding instructors.

Horseback Riding Sessions

Camp Rider (Ages 8 & up)

Campers and adults attending Me & My Guy, Me & My Gal, or Troop Adventure Camp can add one hour of horseback riding to their program at an additional cost of $22. Spaces are limited and are filled on a first come, first-served basis. Campers must be age 8 prior to attending camp.

All rides will be led by Camp Libbey’s qualified horse staff. Adults are not required to ride with their girls. If an adult registered in Me & My Guy, Me & My Gal, or Troop Adventure Camp wants to ride with their camper, she/he may, however, we will not provide childcare for younger girls who cannot ride, so plan accordingly. All riders must wear long pants and boots/shoes with a 1/2 inch heel. Helmets are provided.

Pony Tails (Ages 6 & 7 only)

This is a horseback riding opportunity for girls ages 6 & 7, who are attending the Me & My Guy and Me & My Gal programs. Adults may not register for Pony Tails. Girls riding as ponytails will ride at a separate time and place from Camp Riders. Girls will learn how to approach, stop, start, and turn. All Pony Tail rides will be in the riding ring. Fee is $22. All riders must wear long pants and boots/shoes with a 1/2 inch heel. Helmets are provided.
