Welcome to Camp Butterworth Day Camp!
Dear Parent/Guardians and Camper:
We are delighted that your child will be joining us at day camp. Her safety and
welfare are always our primary concern. We hope she is as excited about camp as
we are. Please read the enclosed information carefully and save it for future
reference. The computer confirmation of the camp and opening date for which your
child is registered is enclosed.
An eager staff is planning and looking forward to the camp session. We hope that
day camp will be a rewarding experience for your child. If you have any
questions, please call the Great Rivers regional office.
General Camp Schedule
Program Schedule
Campers are placed in small groups called
"units" according to grade with
counselors who help them plan activities each day. Day-to-day activities will
vary; campers will do arts and crafts, nature activities, play games, swim
daily, and much more.
What Campers should bring each day
Camp is held rain or shine, so please have your child dress appropriately for
the weather. Mark all belongings with your camper's name in permanent marker.
Non-refrigerated bag lunch (no eggs, meat, or mayonnaise)
Wear close-toed shoes (gym shoes or boots are great) Rain gear (no umbrellas) Sunscreen Hat (optional at parents’/guardians’ discretion) Water bottle Swim suit Towel
The above items should be packed in a backpack, or tote bag, that the camper
can carry.
Campers might do nature activities in the creek; we’ll let you know when to
send extra shoes.
Rainy Weather
Camp program continues on rainy days. BE SURE TO bring a hooded raincoat or
jacket; no umbrellas are permitted. (Even if it is sunny in the morning, the
weather can change rapidly). In the event of a sudden severe storm, the girls
will be moved into storm shelters at each camp.
Special Needs
Children with various special needs can have a positive camp experience if the
camp director and her staff know in advance. If your child has any special
physical, emotional, or medical needs, please contact Mary Beth King at
513-489-1025, or during the summer at 513-683-2892.
Medication
If your child must receive medication during the day, please send the medicine
in its original container with her name, physician’s name, and dosage. A
Medication Card for each medication will be filled out at camp, and each
medication placed in a zip lock bag. The medication will be kept at camp, so
please send the appropriate amount of medication for the entire week.
Camper Behavior
Our staff works hard to help every child feel safe and have a positive
experience. We cannot, however, allow an individual’s behavior to compromise the
positive experience of the group. We will make every effort to work with you and
the camper to correct the behavior; however, a child who runs away or physically
or verbally abuses campers or staff will be asked to leave. If you have any
concerns about your child’s behavior, please call and help us help your child
succeed.
Absent
Camper
If your child will not be at camp, it would be helpful if a parent/guardian
would call the camp and notify the camp director. We will not call to confirm
her absence.
Buses
If your child will be riding the bus to camp, you will find the pick-up and
drop-off times enclosed on the transportation schedule. Every effort will be
made to have buses run on time, however, delays do occur. Please feel free to
contact the Great Rivers Regional Office or camp for updated bus information.
When campers are dropped off in the afternoon, we expect they will be picked up
by a parent/guardian. If your child is permitted to walk home, please check this
option on the transportation form. If your child must leave camp with anyone
other than those listed on her transportation form, written permission from
parent/guardian is required and must be cleared with the camp director prior to
departure. Children will not be released without permission to alternate
locations.
The bus will wait 5 minutes past the scheduled pick-up time. If the camper’s
ride has not arrived, the bus will take her to the next stop. There will be a
$1.00 per minute babysitting fee charged at that point. The fee must be paid
before the camper can attend camp or board the bus the next day. This is to help
prevent transportation delays and protect our camper’s safety.
Times may vary slightly from day to day, please be at the bus stop at least five
minutes early. It is your responsibility to supervise your child at the bus
stop. We do not provide supervision before the child is on the bus in the
morning, or after she leaves the bus in the afternoon. We reserve the right to
cancel any bus stop due to lack of camper enrollment. All affected
parents/guardians will be notified of any changes in the bus schedule.
Parents/Guardians - please review bus safety rules with your child!
-
Find a seat quickly and remain seated until the bus is parked at camp, or it
is pulled safely off the road at the bus stop.
-
Make sure all gear is clear of the bus aisles, and that hands, arms, and
heads are not hanging out the windows.
-
Fasten seatbelts if provided.
-
Listen to the bus chaperone and bus driver in the event of an emergency.
-
There will be staff members to greet campers at camp. They will help children
exit the bus, control traffic, and give directions.
